What we do
Microfinance
We see microfinance as emerging, sustainable and inclusive finance for micro-, small and medium enterprises and low income households. By investing in microfinance, we invest in the democratization of access to capital. Our services currently reach out to 409,630 enterprises and households. By broadening and deepening the access to capital, microfinance institutions finance an array of activities at the bottom of the pyramid, which constitute impact investing themes. Symbiotics is driven by four core themes:
- Microfinance > FOOD.
Microfinance supports rural activities, farmlands and livestock, agribusiness, food processing and small distribution. Our clients' investments reach out today to 176,213 enterprises and households in rural areas and to 78,065 enterprises and households active in agriculture.
- Microfinance > HOMES.
Microfinance supports housing and access to property, home constructions and refurbishments, as well as small local infrastructure. Our clients' investments reach out today to 18,927 small housing, property and infrastructure projects. - Microfinance > JOBS.
Microfinance supports employment and entrepreneurship. Our clients' investments reach out today to 335,525 micro, small and medium enterprises and support the employment of over 2 million people in 42 emerging economies. - Microfinance > ENERGY.
Microfinance supports technology transfer, development and distribution at the bottom of the pyramid, in particular in relation to energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean tech. Today many of our microfinance partner institutions are engaged in developing sustainable energy financing products.
